Andrea's Visit

Andrea knows a lot about rocks and has an amazing collection from around the world. She came in to speak with us and show us some of her gems. We learnt about crystal and diamond quality as well as uses of rocks.

Rock Trip

We were able to go to the Oamaru Rock Club where we spent a morning doing hands on activities to find out more about rocks. They had a huge collection and it was great to be able to use our knowledge and practice what we had learnt.

Sedimentary Rock

We have learnt that Sedimentary rock means a rock that forms layers. These layers are made from a range of minerals which are compacted and cemented together to form the Sedimentary rock. We used a range of minerals to do the same process.

We were fortunate enough to go watch the Royal Ballet at the Opera House along with other schools from Oamaru. We watched a range of styles of ballet and contemporary dancing which was incredible. The men were so strong and women-so graceful and flexible!

Police Visit

We had Carry from the police come and talk to us about being safe on the roads around Oamaru. Lots of us bike and scooter to school! We learnt a lot about safety and road rules to keep ourselves safe!

Year 5 and 6 Challenge

Year 5 and 6 joined together for a technology challenge to build the tallest tower out of newspaper and cellotape. It was a lot of fun working together and we got some awesome results

Activator Sports

We have enjoyed Activator sports this term and demonstrated team work along with ball skills superbly.

Breadmaking experiments

During our experiments we firstly carried out a fair test for making bread in a bag which students may also wish to make at home. We enjoyed changing one variable by changing one thing in the recipe, making hypotheses, and carrying out experiments with a partner. We then shared results and opinions from tasting the outcomes. (Some tasted better than others.)

Trenches and Holocaust

We are beginning to learn the format of reports. We have analysed and discussed many different types of reports- why is it good? what could be improved? what would have we done?
Our writing wall is complete and we are proud of our efforts!

ANZAC Enemy Writing

Our Anzac art is finished and hanging up alongside our enemy letters.
The enemy is about 2 men who live in a hole- they are enemies but they begin to realise that sometimes enemies aren't always what the seem....
We discussed who was wrong in the war? What if you were told wrong information? How can we create peace?

Have a look at our amazing work
